Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim
October 3rd, 4th and 5th

Dedicated to celebrating the music of
Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim,
these concerts feature Scott Hamilton on tenor saxophone
and Romero Lubambo on guitar.

Fifty years ago, in 1964, the song The Girl From Ipanema written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and performed by Astrud Gilberto with Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz became an international hit, captivating the world with Brazil’s thrilling new sound, the bossa nova.

The song captures the allure of youth and beauty and the rhythm of Rio de Janeiro with a fresh jazz take on Brazil’s honored musical tradition, the samba slowing it down and making it more intimate and alluring. People loved it, and the bossa nova craze exploded.

This band is modeled on the Brazilian band on the original Grammy Award winning song along with the brilliant American tenor saxophonist Stan Getz. The four Brazilian musicians at this concert are Helio Alves on piano, the virtuoso pianist on Yo Yo Ma’s Grammy Award winning album "Obrigado Brasil", Nilson Matta on bass, Romero Lubambo on guitar and Duduka da Fonseca on drums. On tenor saxophone is the eloquent Scott Hamilton.
