The Tuscan Room Piano Bar Proudly Presents
An Intimate Evening with Pianist DEHNER FRANKS

Dehner Franks

In Tribute to and Celebration of John Simpson
passionate lover of music, life and piano bars!

At the Tuscan Room Piano Bar we sit at the piano, or next to it for an intimate experience feeling and listening to beautiful live music. The top was designed and created by master carpenter/musician (cellist) Lee Zimmerman. Only 12 seats are available each night.

Dehner Franks has a beautiful gift for playing the piano and reading his audience. He got his start as the elegant young man playing the piano in the wood paneled Fireside Room in Seattle’s Sorrento Hotel where John and I first met him in the mid 90s.

Dehner Franks has appeared at Seattle’s Jazz Alley, Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Yoshi’s in San Francisco, Cezanne Jazz Club in Houston and Catalina Jazz Club in L.A. He was Pianist/Musical Director for the show “Five Guys Named Moe” and the pianist for the traveling musical “Ain’t Misbehavin,” a sassy musical celebration of legendary jazz and stride pianist Fats Waller. Dehner has toured internationally and currently lives in Houston, Texas. —Miriam Singer

In 1964, the song “The Girl from Ipanema” written by Antônio Carlos Jobim and performed by Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto and Stan Getz became an international hit, captivating the world with Brazil’s thrilling new sound: Bossa Nova.

The music captured the allure of youth, beauty, hope and the rhythm of Rio de Janeiro with a fresh jazz take on Brazil’s honored musical tradition, the samba, making it more intimate and sophisticated. People fell in love with it, and the Bossa Nova craze exploded.

We’re bringing back that excitement to celebrate the artistry of three of the past’s most brilliant musicians: Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto and Stan Getz with master Brazilian musicians Romero Lubambo on guitar, Helio Alves on piano, Nilson Matta on bass, Duduka da Fonseca on drums and singer Maucha Adnet. On tenor saxophone, taking the place of Stan Getz, is the eloquent Harry Allen completing this amazing sextet celebrating the great music of Brazil.

"Romero is the best Brazilian guitarist there is." — Herbie Mann.

“Harry Allen’s playing is nothing less than perfect.” — John Pizzarelli

Karrin Allyson is an internationally acclaimed singer, pianist, composer, teacher, and bandleader. She is noted for her warm and exciting sound, and large breadth of repertoire, which embraces The Great American Songbook, Brazilian Bossa Nova, French Chansons and the great composers. She has an uncanny ability to ‘get inside’ a lyric — to take over a song and reshape it into something magical while accompanying herself on the piano.

Straight from a 5 night/10 show appearance at Birdland Jazz Club in New York City, Karrin Allyson will be performing at The Tuscan Room with bassist Tim Emmons.
