The music captured the allure of youth and beauty and the rhythm of Rio de Janeiro with a fresh jazz take on Brazil’s honored musical tradition, the samba slowing it down and making it more intimate and alluring. People loved it, and the bossa nova craze exploded.
We’re bringing back the excitement of the marriage of passionate rhythms of Brazil with the sophistication of American Jazz to celebrate the artistry of three of past’s best musicians with 5 of the best Brazilian musicians working today along with American tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. Canadian music critic Gene Lees wrote, "Stan Getz was once asked his idea of the perfect tenor saxophone soloist. His answer was, 'My technique, Al Cohn's ideas, and Zoot's time.’ The fulfillment of that ideal may well be embodied in Harry Allen.”
On guitar is the creative and versatile finger style Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo, an amazing virtuoso who has performed and recorded with Diane Reeves, Yo-Yo Ma, Diana Krall, Herbie Mann and Wynton Marsalis, ”Guitarist Romero Lubambo may be the best practitioner of his craft in the world today... [his] facility, creativity and energy are in a class all their own." — Jazziz magazine
The five Brazilian musicians on these concerts are Helio Alves on piano, the virtuoso pianist on Yo Yo Ma’s Grammy Award winning album "Obrigado Brasil.” Nilson Matta on bass, Romero Lubambo on guitar, Duduka da Fonseca on drums and singer Maucha Adnet. On tenor saxophone is the eloquent Harry Allen completing this amazing 6 piece band honoring the great music of Brazil.
